Evert Sooster has been performing as a basso cantante for nearly 30 years in some of Europe’s most renowned opera houses. His extensive repertoire includes roles in prestigious productions across various theaters. Notable performances include Mazetto in Don Giovanni (1998, Opéra du Rhin, Strasbourg), Plutone in Orfeo (1999, State Opera Munich/Theater-an-der-Wien), and Abimilech in Samson et Dalila (2002, Teatro di San Carlo, Naples). He has portrayed Henry VIII in Anna Bolena (2003, Finnish National Opera), Boris Godunov in Boris Godunov (2002/2003, Hessian State Theatre, Wiesbaden), and Mephistopheles in La damnation de Faust (2010, National Concert Hall, Budapest). Other major roles include a Priest in Assassino nella Cattedrale (2012, Duomo di Milano), Procida/Vaudemont in I vespri siciliani (2013/2014, Theatre of Freiburg), Creon/Messenger in Oedipus Rex (2017, Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg), and The King in Aida (2017, Opera Bergen, Norway). More recent performances include Nicos in Koma (2019, Theatre of Klagenfurt, Austria) and ongoing engagements at the Klaipėda State Music Theatre, where he performs Vodník in Rusalka, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Dulcamara in L’elisir d’amore. In 2025, he is set to appear as Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Theatre of Vorarlberg, Bregenz, Austria. Evert Sooster earned his Magister of Arts degree from the Vienna University of Music in 1999 and has led multiple masterclasses in Vienna.
